Sustainable Scented Advertising:
Some Simple Suggestions

We are often asked by our clients how we can improve the sustainability of our marketing materials as well as the products themselves. So we thought we would put together a list of good best practices to get started.

Sustainably Sourced
Fragrance House

The fragrances: speak with the fragrance houses to understand their sustainable sourcing strategies. This is usually broken down into the supply chain – how the ingredients of a fragrance are sustainably sourced how the pickers & plantations are chosen to supply those ingredients. The second part of this is the company’s internal sustainability strategy, the powering of production plants and the waste produced during the process, how this is disposed of.

Next you have the sustainability of what you are producing, weather that’s packaging, point of sale or above the line, all of these will have an environmental impact, looking at what that it is and how it can be reduced is significant. Let’s take the example of paper based point of sale materials – some of the options to reduce the impact are below:

Recycled Paper

This comes in the form of varying levels, depending on the finish you want and the cost.

FSC Paper: Forest Stewardship Council certification gives customers the option to choose forest products like paper and wood that have been sourced in an environmentally-friendly, socially responsible and economically viable manner. FSC was founded in 1993 in response to concerns about deforestation.

PEFC: In order to provide assurances that wood and wood-based products originate from sustainably managed forests, PEFC promotes Chain of Custody certification.
